The first Asian Poker Tour (APT) championships in the Vietnamese coastal city of Da Nang will be staged at Cocobay Beach Resort from October 3 to 14, the poker brand said in a press release. The APT hosted an inaugural Vietnam tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, in January.
The new, twelve-day poker event – the APT Vietnam Da Nang Championships 2018 – is being promoted via an agreement reached with the Win Poker club and the country’s Bridge and Poker Association, according to APT’s latest release. Win Poker’s chairman Tran Thanh Van (pictured left) and its vice president Haianh Tran (pictured centre) as well as APT general manager and executive tournament director Lloyd Fontillas (pictured right) attended a ceremony to mark the announcement.
The hosting of the Da Nang tournaments will complete APT’s 2018 calendar and mean the brand has nine festivals in total this year, the release also stated. The APT is making a return to Ho Chi Minh City this year with another poker event – the APT Vietnam Championships 2018 – to be held at the Pro Poker Club from July 11 to 22.
The Da Nang market has recently attracted the interest of several of Macau’s major junket investors.
An executive from Macau-based junket investor Tak Chun Group noted on Sunday that it would open a new VIP club under its own brand in Da Nang. The junket firm did not specify either the timeframe or the venue.
Tak Chun’s Macau market rival, Suncity Group, is investing in a casino resort project at Hoi An – a city located to the south of Da Nang – via a Hong Kong-listed entity, with an intended 34-percent stake. The project is branded as Hoiana.
