A senior Genting Group insider has been appointed a non-executive director of Genting Hong Kong Ltd, the latter firm said in a filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Friday.
Justin Tan Wah Joo, aged 64, took up his post with immediate effect. Genting Hong Kong is a joint venture partner in the Resorts World Manila casino resort in the Philippines, and also runs casino cruise ships under the Star Cruises brand.
Mr Tan spent nearly two decades in senior management positions with Genting Singapore Plc, first as a non-executive director, and then from 2000 to 2010 as managing director of the firm. It developed and operates the Resorts World Sentosa casino complex in Singapore.
From September 2005 to December 2005 Mr Tan was also a non-independent non-executive director of the group parent business, Genting Malaysia Bhd. Prior to that, he held the position of executive director from April 1999 up to August 2005.
The new board member has extensive experience of gaming industry senior management. He was a director of Genting UK Plc – operator of 35 casinos in the United Kingdom, including five in London – from October 2006 to May 2010. He was also president of Resorts World Inc Pte Ltd from February 2010 until he retired in April 2013.
Mr Tan’s appointment comes fewer than two months after Genting Hong Kong announced on July 2 that its president David Chua Ming Huat had resigned “to pursue his personal interests”.
