Hotel Okura Manila announced on Monday the appointment of Jan Marshall (pictured) as its general manager.
The new hotel is due to open in the first quarter of 2019 as part of the third-phase expansion of the Resorts World Manila casino resort in the Philippine capital.
Mr Marshall is a graduate of the hospitality school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is said to have had broad experience of the hotel sector via roles in the United States and in Asia.
He is a managing executive officer of Okura Nikko Hotel Management and has spent for more than 15 years with the Okura group.
Toshihiro Ogita, president of Hotel Okura Co Ltd, said in the announcement: “We are delighted with Mr Marshall’s appointment as general manager of Hotel Okura Manila, the first Okura-branded property in the Philippines.”
He added: “We are confident the hotel will become a familiar landmark for local people and for visitors around the world, and that under Mr Marshall’s leadership it [the property] will help bring world-famous Japanese service and hospitality levels to the Philippines.”
The Resorts World Manila complex is located near Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“The 170-room Hotel Okura Manila will offer easy access to Manila’s business and leisure districts,” stated the announcement.
This is the Hotel Okura brand’s second venue to be located in a casino resort in Asia. The Japanese brand has Hotel Okura Macau at Galaxy Macau casino resort, located in the city’s Cotai district.
The Japanese hotel group aims to expand its global portfolio to 100 properties, primarily in the Asian region.
