The number of tourist arrivals to Macau during the four-day period encompassing the Labour Day break increased 6.9 percent compared to the same period last year, to nearly 501,000, according to data released by the Public Security Police.
The figures covered the period from April 28 (Saturday) to May 1 (Tuesday).
Many mainland Chinese citizens were able to enjoy at least three consecutive days of recreation during the Labour Day break, namely from April 29 to May 1 inclusive, as the period was prescribed as an official festive period by China’s State Council.
Casino gross gaming revenue in Macau rose by 27.6 percent year-on-year in April, to approximately MOP25.73 billion (US$3.18 billion), according to data from the city’s regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, released on Tuesday. The tally was positively impacted by the Labour Day extended weekend, analysts DS Kim and Sean Zhuang from JP Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Ltd wrote in a note.
Brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd stated that, based on “weekly channel checks”, the implied average daily revenue for the last eight days of April “was quite strong at MOP979 million, capturing the May 1 holiday weekend”.
