The number of visitors on package tours to Macau fell by 3.3 percent year-on-year in July, although judged month-on-month the 771,000 tally was up 14 percent, said on Thursday the city’s Statistics and Census Service.
According to previously-released data, the number of overnight visitors to Macau in July rose by 1.7 percent year-on-year to nearly 1.64 million. The average length of stay of visitors in July was 1.3 days, up by 0.1 days compared with the same month last year.
Information in Thursday’s release showed the aggregate of package tour visitors from mainland China went down by 7.5 percent year-on-year, to 611,000, while the total from South Korea and Taiwan surged by 30.6 percent and 59.4 percent variously, to 49,000 and 63,000 respectively.
In the first seven months of 2018, there were 5.04 million package tour visitors recorded, up by 10.7 percent year-on-year.
The data added that as of July there were 116 establishments officially classified as either hotels or guesthouses operating, which was nine more venues than a year earlier.
The number of guest rooms in the Macau market grew by 8.0 percent year-on-year to 39,000. Within that total, the number of five-star hotel rooms went up by 11.1 percent to 24,000, accounting for 61.9 percent of the total.
The number of hotel and guesthouse guests in July rose by 1.1 percent year-on-year to just under 1.23 million.
The tally of guests originating from mainland China increased by 6.2 percent to 841,000, while that from South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, dropped by 21.8 percent, 8.0 percent and 3.9 percent variously, to 38,000, 152,000 and 48,000 respectively.
The average length of stay of guests went up by 0.1 nights year-on-year to 1.5 nights. The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses stood at 89.9 percent, down slightly by 0.9 percentage points year-on-year. The occupancy rates of five-star hotels and four-star hotels were in each case 92.7 percent, representing respectively a gain of 1.8 percentage point and a loss of 0.1 percentage point year-on-year.
In the first seven months of 2018, there were just under 8.10 million hotel and guesthouse guests, an increase of 6.8 percent year-on-year.
The average occupancy rate of such establishments in the first seven months of 2018 rose by 3.2 percentage points year-on-year to 88.7 percent, and the average length of stay of guests increased by 0.1 night year-on-year to 1.5 nights.
