The number of workers employed by Macau’s gaming industry increased by 1.4 percent in the third quarter of 2014 as compared with the previous three months.
The sector employed around 81,500 people by end-September, data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service show.
The figure is still below the all-time high recorded in the forth quarter of 2013, when the number of people working for Macau’s casino sector peaked at 86,600.
The median monthly employment earnings for gaming workers in Macau stood at MOP17,000 (US$2,128), up by 6.3 percent from the previous three-month period. The figure is likely to increase in 2015, as casino operators are expected to introduce a new round of salary increases – SJM Holdings Ltd has already announced a 5-percent pay rise to its staff.
The median for the number of weekly hours worked by those employed by the gaming industry stayed put in the third quarter of 2014, at 46.9 hours.
