Nevada Gaming Commission chairman Peter Bernhard – who oversaw the historic move by some Las Vegas casino operators into the Macau market and the suitability inquiry into Pansy Ho Chiu King as a Macau partner for MGM Resorts International – is to resign on Thursday after nearly 13 years of service.
Mr Bernhard, aged 65, a Las Vegas lawyer, has been chairman of the commission’s five-member regulatory panel since 2001.
Tony Alamo Jr, a member of the commission since 2008, was on Wednesday named as new chairman by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval.
The reshuffle comes soon after the retirement of Jerry Markling as chief of the enforcement division at the Nevada State Gaming Control Board. Mr Markling’s departure was announced in July last year.
The division is charged with keeping the state’s casinos and clubs crime-free. It also has responsibility for overseas enforcement. Mr Markling’s replacement was Karl Bennison, who served for 18 years as a control board agent.
