The Resorts World Sentosa casino resort in Singapore says it will stage a festival with a Japanese theme for the month of June.
Resorts World Sentosa issued on Friday a written statement saying the festival will be called RWS Summer Matsuri and run from June 6 to June 9.
“Guests will join in the revelry of food, drinks, movies and cultural performances, enjoying a slice of the exciting offerings from the iconic Furusato Matsuri Tokyo, an annual festival in Japan that draws throngs of locals and tourists,” the statement said.
Resorts World Sentosa (pictured in a file photo) is owned and run by Genting Singapore Ltd, a subsidiary of Malaysian gaming company Genting Bhd.
Genting Singapore has ambitions to run a casino in Japan.
This month Genting Singapore executive chairman Lim Kok Thay, writing in the Genting Singapore annual report, expressed cautious optimism about the chances of the company being given a licence for a casino in Japan.
“We are cautiously optimistic about leveraging on our experience in winning the IR [integrated resort] bid in Singapore back in 2006 that led to significant tourism growth, in order to do the same in Japan soon,” wrote Mr Lim at the beginning of this month, referring respectively to Singapore and Japan’s public policy aims in legalising casino business.
In the company’s annual report, Mr Lim added that Genting Singapore’s “strong” balance sheet put the company “in good stead to embark on plans to expand… as well as to seek strategic investment opportunities in Japan, where we are actively gearing up for the bidding process for IRs”.
