Slot machine maker and lottery services firm International Game Technology Plc says it has reached a licensing agreement with Gamesys Ltd, a United Kingdom-based gaming software developer and online gaming operator.
Under the deal IGT will give Gamesys the right to use some of its 2,000 patented slot machine game features, IGT said in a press release on Wednesday.
Gamesys currently runs several online platforms in the U.K. providing slot machine games on a social basis and for real money.
“This agreement with IGT allows Gamesys to utilise compelling and well established game mechanics in key jurisdictions where such IP [intellectual property] is protected by patents,” said Hans Elias, head of games studios at Gamesys.
Union Gaming Research LLC said in a note on Tuesday that DoubleDown Casino, IGT’s own interactive gaming business for digital media platforms, is “still undeveloped”. DoubleDown Casino was purchased by the original International Game Technology entity in early 2012 for US$500 million.
IGT Plc was formed on April 7 via the US$6.4-billion merger of Italy-based lottery technology and services specialist GTech SpA and Nevada-based slot machine maker International Game Technology.
