Canadian pro Elliot Smith has claimed the title in the PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event that concluded on Sunday. He took home the top prize of nearly HKD2.88 million (US$370,386) for his first place finish.
Mr Smith became the third winner in this new tournament series, joining Christian Harder and Kenny Smaron as champions.
The PokerStars Championship Macau is promoted by online poker brand PokerStars and took place at ‘PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams’, a branded venue at Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd’s City of Dreams casino resort on Cotai, Macau.
After more than 260 hands, the main event was down to just two players – China’s Tianyuan Tang and the Canadian poker pro – with the pot roughly split between them. It took more than 11 hours after they began their heads-up, for a winner to emerge.
Tianyuan Tang took home a cash prize of approximately HKD2.58 million. Australia’s Daniel Laidlaw ranked third, getting a prize of HKD1.72 million.
In the PokerStars Championship Macau High Roller event, New Zealand’s Sosia Jiang walked away with the trophy and a prize of HKD3.87 million.
Next in PokerStar’s calendar in Macau is the 18th instalment of the ACOP Platinum Series, which takes place from April 28 to May 7. The regional series includes 15 Official Asia Player of the Year events, as well as a HKD5,500 Main Event which comes with a guaranteed prize pool worth HKD500,000.
