Macau-based casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd is warning the public about fraudulent websites exploiting the company’s brands.
“Recently, it came to our attention that our hotels and/or resort properties’ trade names, trademarks, photo images and customer services hotlines have been exploited by illegal and unauthorised online gaming and betting websites,” the company said in a notice on Wednesday.
Galaxy Entertainment added that at least some of the unauthorised websites were operating under the names of ‘Galaxy Macau Casino’, ‘Galaxy Entertainment City’ and ‘Macau Galaxy Entertainment City’.
The firm said the purpose of these websites was “misleading members of the public” to think they were associated with Galaxy Entertainment.
The company stressed it had “no affiliations with any online gambling and betting sites” nor it had authorised “any websites and/or related companies to carry out any form of online gambling and betting activities for and on behalf of the group”.
Galaxy Entertainment added it could take legal action against those infringing on its corporate identity and exploiting the use of its brands without authorisation.
The company urged people suspecting a website to be fraudulent to contact the police.
It is not the first time a Macau-based casino operator has faced similar problems. SJM Holdings Ltd last year issued a similar notice.
Additionally, Las Vegas Sands Corp, the parent of Macau-based Sands China Ltd, in June announced it was pursuing the anonymous registrants of 35 websites and domain names through courts in the United States for allegedly using its trademarks without authorisation. The websites were said to be Chinese-language platforms.
