Japan’s government is to put into effect, from this Friday, the Basic Act on Gambling Addiction Countermeasures, GGRAsia has learned.
The framework legislation was passed by the country’s parliament (pictured) in early July and is regarded by lawmakers as an important social policy safeguard that needs to be in place prior to any casino resorts opening in that nation.
The Cabinet Secretariat will be responsible for coordinating implementation of the measure, under the leadership of the Chief Cabinet Secretary.
According to information from Japan, the national government will establish what is termed a comprehensive basic plan regarding addiction countermeasures, and each local government will be able to formulate additional steps.
The Nikkei news outlet reported recently that representatives from governments had attended in August briefing sessions by Japan’s Office of Integrated Resort Regime Promotion – known as the IR Promotion Secretariat – on the IR policy issue.
