The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has announced that the APT Philippines 2017, taking place from July 19 to 27, has been moved to the Winford Hotel and Casino. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place at Resorts World Manila in the Philippine capital.
Travellers International Hotel Group Inc confirmed in a Tuesday filing that its gaming permit for Resorts World Manila had been suspended following a deadly attack at the casino venue on June 2 that left at least 36 people dead.
“Since 2010, the Asian Poker Tour and Resorts World Manila have had a long-standing partnership that has produced fun-filled high calibre events with record numbers,” the organisers said on Thursday in a press release. “For the first time, the APT will be bringing the APT Philippines to the Winford, and it will be considered the first international poker event to be held at the venue.”
The APT additionally announced that the buy-in for the tournament’s Main Event would drop to US$2,200, from the originally US$3,300 buy-in.
In April, APT had announced the soft launch of the APT Poker Room Manila at the Winford Hotel and Casino. The gaming property – located within the San Lazaro Tourism and Business Park, in Metro Manila – hosted its official opening ceremony in late April.
In Thursday’s release, the APT said it still planned to hold what it terms the “APT Philippines 2017 II” at Resorts World Manila in September.
“Through the years, the APT has staged a total of 19 events at Resorts World Manila which includes its latest major event of the year, the APT Championships Philippines held last April,” said the organisers.
