Mainland China’s sales of official lottery products in January decreased by 16.8 percent in year-on-year terms, according to data from the country’s Ministry of Finance.
Monthly sales for the official lotteries in mainland China have now declined for eight consecutive months as measured in year-on-year terms.
Total sales in January were RMB32.64 billion (US$5.05 billion), the Ministry of Finance announced.
Welfare lottery sales decreased by 7.9 percent year-on-year, to RMB18.13 billion, while sports lottery sales declined 25.7 percent to RMB14.51 billion.
China’s total lottery sales fell 3.8 percent year-on-year in 2015, to RMB367.9 billion, according to official data.
In January, sales were up in 11 of the 31 provinces and municipalities of mainland China authorised to sell lottery tickets. Guangdong province, which last year reported the highest combined sales of welfare and sports lottery tickets, saw its sales decline 0.7 percent year-on-year in January.
