Malaysia’s Michael Soyza won nearly HKD2.04 million (US$261,080) as champion of the 27th edition of the Macau Poker Cup, which concluded at the City of Dreams Macau casino resort in Cotai on Sunday.
The tournament – at the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams – began on August 25, and had a guaranteed prize pool of HKD10 million.
Martin Finger, of Germany, took second place, winning HKD1.70 million, and Zhong Wang of China claimed third spot with HKD979,000.
On Friday, China’s Qiuming Qin had claimed victory in the HKD15,000 buy-in Red Dragon event, winning HKD3.14 million. The Red Dragon even set a new record of 1,308 entries, according to PokerStars.
The City of Dreams Macau property is promoted by Macau casino licensee Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd.
Next in PokerStars’ calendar in Macau is the 2017 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP), which takes place from October 13 to 29. The ACOP main event features a HKD100,000 buy-in and comes with a guaranteed prize pool of HKD25 million, according to PoklerStars.
