Michelin released on Thursday its first edition of the Michelin Guide for Singapore, with six restaurants at the city-state’s casinos gaining star ratings from the prestigious guide. A total of 29 restaurants received respectively one-, two- or three-star ratings. Among the star awardees were two hawker stalls.
Singapore now has one restaurant awarded three Michelin stars. It is Michelin’s top accolade for food that it considers “exceptional cuisine”. The outlet, French favourite Joel Robuchon Restaurant, is located at the Resorts World Sentosa casino resort, owned by gaming operator Genting Singapore Plc.
Chef Joël Robuchon – holder of the most Michelin stars globally – saw his L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, also at Resorts World Sentosa, awarded two Michelin stars. Singapore has now a total of six, two Michelin-star restaurants, including three French-inspired restaurants, a sushi venue and a Chinese restaurant.
A total of 22 establishments netted one-star ratings in the inaugural edition of the Michelin Guide for Singapore. Four of those restaurants are in the city-state’s two casino resorts.
Resorts World Sentosa’s venue Forest – offering modern Chinese and Thai-accented cuisine; and Osia – serving contemporary Australian cuisine; each received their first Michelin star.
Steakhouse CUT, by Chef Wolfgang Puck, and Waku Ghin, by Chef Tetsuya Wakuda, each gained one-star Michelin status in the inaugural guide for Singapore. The two establishments are located at casino resort Marina Bay Sands, developed and operated by Las Vegas Sands Corp.
The Michelin Guide for Singapore spans more than 35 different cuisine categories and a wide range of food establishments. Hawker stall outlets Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle were each awarded a one-star rating in the first edition of the guide.
This year’s guide includes 34 Singapore restaurants offering “exceptional good food at moderate prices,” in a guide section called “Bib Gourmand”.
The Michelin Guide for Singapore was published by French tyre company Michelin in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board. Resorts World Sentosa sponsored the inaugural guide.
