The Macau government has ordered Sands China Ltd to suspend the construction works for casino resort the Parisian Macao, located in Cotai, following a work accident.
The city’s Labour Affairs Bureau issued a statement on Sunday saying it had ordered the gaming operator and the contractor to suspend all works and review and improve safety standards.
Media reports say one worker at the construction site sustained serious injurious on Saturday after being hit by falling scaffolding. Another worker also suffered injuries.
The government statement did not say when the construction works would be resumed.
The US$2.7-billion Parisian Macao is scheduled to open in November 2015, according to Sheldon Adelson, chairman of Las Vegas Sands Corp, the parent company of Sands China. The property will include 3,000 hotel rooms.
The project features several replicas of Paris landmarks, including a scaled version of the Eiffel Tower. Sands China has requested 450 gaming tables from the government for use in The Parisian.
