Resorts World Genting (RWG), Malaysia’s monopoly casino resort, hosted in September the inaugural Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo, held at Genting International Convention Centre.
A total of five memorandums of understanding (MoUs), worth MYR12 million (US$3.7 million), was signed at the event held from September 10 to 12, said the gaming complex’s promoter, Genting Malaysia Bhd.
The three-day Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo included workshops, networking opportunities and knowledge-sharing sessions on the latest trends in F&B sustainable practices at Resorts World Genting.
The opening ceremony was attended by deputy minister at the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Yang Berhormat Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, according to a press release.
The announcement cited Spencer Lee, Resorts World Genting executive vice president of sales, marketing and public relations, as saying: “Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo was conceptualised to showcase the transformative dynamism of Malaysia’s F&B and MICE sectors.”
“Our focus on sustainable F&B is in line with our ever-growing commitment towards sustainable development,” he added.
Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo seeks to focus on key segments of the ‘green’ economy and on sustainable commerce. This includes the areas of: overall food production; seafood; packaging and food waste management; regenerative agriculture; plant-based innovations and food innovation research; renewable energy; and eco-friendly commercial equipment.
During the event, Resorts World Genting signed the first MoU with Nestle Malaysia, for the supply of Harvest Gourmet plant-based products for MICE events and F&B outlets.
The complex also inked an agreement with Fraser & Neave to explore the use of natural mineral water packed in fully recyclable packaging in a bid to reduce the dependence on plastic and single-use bottles at the resort.
Resorts World Genting also signed a third MoU: with PNH Malaysia, that focused on upcycling food waste and transforming it from carbon powder, into hotel-amenity products such as toothbrushes, hair combs and cutlery for use at the resort.
Another two deals were signed with respectively Farm Fresh and Aqina Farm, the first for a joint marketing campaign to promote nutritional awareness and healthy living at Resorts World Genting, and the latter to explore the purchase of sustainable-farmed products.
Over US$2.7mln in deals signed at RWG SustainBiz expo
