Macau casino resort operator Sands China Ltd is hosting over 30 shows across its three Cotai performance venues between March and mid-June. Most of the spectacles are concerts at the Venetian Arena, the recently-revamped and rebranded event facility at the Venetian Macao.
That is based on GGRAsia’s review of the company’s social media postings and its official website.
The Venetian Arena – formerly the Cotai Arena, and now with a 14,000-seat capacity – hosts an aggregate of 16 concerts from March through to May, featuring artists either from Hong Kong, Taiwan, or South Korea.
The Venetian Arena is offering successive weekends of live music in mid to late April. Hong Kong artists Jordan Chan, Michael Tse and Jerry Lamb appear on April 19. South Korean singer Taeyeon performs single concerts on April 26 and April 27 respectively. In May, the Venetian Arena offers a total of eight concerts from Hong Kong singer Sammi Cheng.
In March, the Venetian Arena – Sands China’s largest-capacity venue – hosted two sessions of music shows called “Idol Radio Live in Macau”, arranged by South Korean television network MBC TV. The venue also had concerts respectively from Chinese pop singers Priscilla Chan, Rainie Yang and Jam Hsiao.
The Londoner Arena – with a 6,000 capacity and within the Londoner Macao casino resort – has hosted two concerts in March, respectively Taiwan singer William Wei and South Korean artist Kyuhyun. The venue is hosting a weekend concert from another South Korean artist, Rain, on April 12, followed by the “Studio Ghibli Symphony: Featuring Original Series” scheduled for April 26.
The Londoner Arena is to feature a show by Chinese pop singer Yisa Yu, scheduled on May 24; and Hong Kong singer, Jay Fung, scheduled on May 31. The venue is also scheduled to host a concert from South Korean artist, Kai, on June 7, as well as a concert from Taiwan rock duo, Power Station, on June 14.
The Venetian Theatre – with a seating capacity for 1,780 audience members at Venetian Macao – hosts an aggregate of eight performances from March to April. Five of those are fan gatherings with artists from either South Korea or Thailand. The rest include music performances and a talk show, indicate Sands China corporate materials.
Fellow Macau operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd is hosting more than 30 shows at its Cotai properties between March and June, according to GGRAsia’s earlier review of its corporate marketing materials.
The city’s government has been encouraging all six Macau gaming concessionaires to increase the amount of non-gaming products they offer, to help diversify the city’s gaming resort sector beyond high-stakes gambling.
A number of investment analysts has also suggested that shows by some artists have helped to bring to the hosting resorts, incremental gambling business.
