Macau gaming concessionaire Wynn Macau Ltd says it has been awarded the “Excellence Award in Technology Innovation and Sustainable Development Pioneer” at the inaugural “ESG Awards for Excellence”. The awards recognise efforts regarding environment, social responsibility, and governance (ESG) principles, according to a Monday press release.
The ESG Awards for Excellence were jointly promoted by the Organizing Committee of China Business Top 100 Forum, Warton Economic Institute, China City Development Foundation, and the Macao Green & Low Carbon Industry Association. The awards were also supported by several Macau government bodies: the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute; the Environmental Protection Bureau; and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau.
The presentation event was held concurrently with the 2025 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2025 MIECF).
The awards “aimed at establishing the first cross-domain ESG value assessment system in Greater China,” stated the announcement.
It added the awards were “commending listed enterprises that have excellent ESG performance,” and that were also “formulating internationally recognised ‘Macau Standards’ for the sustainable development of listed enterprises,” and “facilitating” exchanges and cooperation on those topics.
According to the release, the selection process was completed by a nine-judge committee made up of industry, academic and research experts.
Listed companies in 13 areas were researched and added to a shortlist, then underwent an initial review, an analysis, and a secondary review, added the update.
“The award underscores industry recognition of Wynn’s sustainability efforts,” stated the casino firm. “Wynn has been dedicated to realising sustainability at all levels of business operation for years,” it added.
These efforts, said Wynn Macau Ltd, included “becoming the first integrated resort operator in Macau to recycle shredded playing cards locally,” as well as working at “reducing food waste”. The company said it had also been “pioneering the installation of the Nordaq 2000 Refilling System” for drinking water, “to minimise plastic use, and embracing digital workflows and conducting waste audits to continuously lower… environmental impact”.
“Wynn will continue enhancing operational efficiency, reinforcing its ESG policies and initiatives, and promoting eco-friendly applications and innovations to contribute toward Macau’s long-term sustainable development,” said the company.
