Nearly 20 culinary brands will be available at Macau casino resort Wynn Palace’s “Gourmet Pavilion” food hall when it opens on April 29, just ahead of mainland China’s May Day holidays, that run this year from May 1 to May 5 inclusive.
That holiday season is typically a peak period for Macau’s tourism industry and its casinos.
GGRAsia had reported in March, that Gourmet Pavilion had been recruiting staff in preparation for its launch.
Wynn Palace’s promoter Wynn Macau Ltd said in a Wednesday press release, that the food on offer represented cuisine from across China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
It includes Guangzhou restaurant Yong Zuo’s Michelin-recommended fish congee; and Michelin-recommended Ann Chin Popiah’s Singapore street food speciality, popiah.
“From high-end, award-winning dishes to down-to-earth street fare, Gourmet Pavilion gathers a myriad of colourful Asian cuisines under one roof,” stated the casino company’s update. Other brands will be added later, it noted.
The food hall setup, near the south atrium at Wynn Palace is the work of David Collins Studio Ltd, a London, United Kingdom-based interior designer.
Wynn Macau Ltd’s press release clarified the firm’s choice of the Gourmet Pavilion branding for the facility.
It said: “’Fu Le Ting’, the Chinese name for Gourmet Pavilion, cleverly conveys the double-meaning of ‘rich in flavour’ and ‘the joy of eating’.”
The statement further noted: “The word ‘fu’ sounds like the same word for ‘rich’ in Chinese, symbolising that Gourmet Pavilion offers guests an abundance of rich and diverse cuisines.
“The word ‘le’ is the ‘joy’ of sharing delicious dishes with friends and loved ones,” the casino company added.
A “destination food hall” for Wynn Palace would help “drive incremental visitation and footfall” to the property, mentioned previously Craig Billings, chief executive of Wynn Resorts Ltd, the U.S.-based parent of Wynn Macau Ltd. The latter firm also runs Wynn Macau, on the city’s penisula.
Mr Billings was speaking on Wynn Resorts’ fourth-quarter 2024 earnings conference call in February. Mr Billings also noted: “Historically, at Wynn Palace, we have been light… on more casual dining options.”
