The Okada Manila casino resort in the Philippine capital says it has partnered with the School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED Philippines) to offer scholarships to young Filipinos.
The programme aims to “support agri-education and hands-on training” among the local population, as part of Okada Manila’s “commitment to sustainable community development,” stated the property’s promoter in a Wednesday press release.
The initiative is part of the complex’s “Okada Green Heart” programme, under the heading “talent and community”. A total of PHP500,000 (US$8,991) was allocated by Okada Manila to support the work of SEED.
Okada Manila said it supported the first batch of SEED graduates from the municipalities of Bacolod and Leyte, who built “around six farms during their intensive training programme”.
These graduates “have since taken purposeful paths, joining local government agriculture offices, working with non-profit organisations, and pursuing college degrees independently,” added the announcement.
The update cited Kenji Sugiyama, managing director and CSR committee member of Okada Manila, as saying: “We are proud to support programmes that cultivate long-term, measurable value for both people and the planet.”
“Through our partnership with SEED Philippines, we are investing in young change-makers who can help transform their communities through sustainable farming, innovation, and social entrepreneurship,” the representative added.
Mark Lawrence Cruz, director of SEED Philippines, said in prepared remarks: “We are honoured to walk alongside Okada Manila in this mission of educating the next generation of agri-leaders and food producers for the Philippines.”
