Sands China and Fuhong Society of Macau distribute 2,600 gift packs to mark Children’s Day

A group of 200 volunteers drawn from the workforce of Macau casino concessionaire Sands China Ltd and from the membership of the Fuhong Society of Macau, a local not-for-profit organisation, assembled a total of 2,600 festive gift packs for distribution to 66 local child-services institutions and residential homes.

The packs were distributed ahead of Children’s Day, with the aim of “spreading warmth to children on the festive day,” stated the casino firm in a press release.

It said the effort “integrated community engagement with inclusive employment, as [Fuhong] members with disabilities earn money from Fuhong for assembling the gift packs”.

The Sands Cares Ambassadors “helped them prepare the gift packs, showing the community’s care and kindness while providing an avenue for them to contribute their skills”.

The release said that Fuhong’s gift packs – containing a drawing kit, snacks, and a phone clip made by Fuhong members – were purchased by Sands China.

“On the same day, Sands China donated MOP259,750 [US$32,129] to Fuhong Society of Macau in support of the gift pack programme,” added the update.

The announcement cited Wilfred Wong, Sands China’s executive vice chairman, as saying: “At Sands China, corporate social responsibility is a core philosophy and our hearts are intertwined with the very fabric of the city that we have called home for over 20 years.”

He added: “Through Fuhong’s gift pack community sharing programme, we have proactively distributed gift packs to 98,600 children to spread cheer and warmth throughout the community during festive occasions.”

Jennifer Chau, director of Fuhong Society of Macau, said in prepared remarks that the partnership with Sands China had “not only provided invaluable employment opportunities and income” for members of its Pou Lei Centre, but had also “enabled them to give back to the community through their handcrafted gifts”.

“This single act of support represents double the goodwill, embodying the spirit of social inclusion,” she added.
