Macau casino resort operator Sands China Ltd is this week offering two sessions featuring job-interview opportunities, and aimed at staff working at the city’s 11 satellite casinos, venues that are due to close at year-end.
According to a social media posting from an official company account, Sands China is hosting the first job interview session on Tuesday (June 17) at Sands Macao (pictured) on the city’s peninsula, and another session on Wednesday at the same location.
The work on offer relates to the casino firm’s Sands Rewards programme, a multi-tier membership service for patrons of Sands China’s Macau properties.
The city’s government has calculated 5,600 staff – all local residents – would be affected by the satellite casino shutdowns.
Of those, 4,800 are directly under the city’s three gaming concessionaires that have affixed their licence to satellite business, and 800 are employed by the satellite-venue owners. A further 400 non-resident workers were employed in satellites.
SJM Holdings accounts for nine of the 11 satellites, while Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd and Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd account for one each.
Macau concessionaires have been requested by the city’s government to absorb into their core business, Macau-resident workers they had previously assigned to the satellites, once those satellites shut down, though some of those affected might wish to work elsewhere.
In June 9 statements, SJM Holdings, Galaxy Entertainment and Melco Resorts respectively pledged that they would reassign their employees working at the satellite gaming venues to other properties they run in Macau.
SJM Holdings and Galaxy Entertainment have also flagged hosting job matching sessions this week for their satellite workers.
