A PHP50-million (US$865,350) redevelopment of Caloocan City’s People’s Park in Metro Manila, paid for by Melco Resorts (Philippines) Foundation Corp (MRP Foundation), was recently inaugurated.
Those at the ceremony included Caloocan City mayor, Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan (pictured second left), and MRP Foundation chairman and president, Clarence Chung (pictured centre).
The ceremony coincided with month-long celebrations for the 64th anniversary of Caloocan’s status as a city.
MRP Foundation, the charitable arm of integrated resort City of Dreams Manila, fully funded the comprehensive redevelopment of the park. The casino complex in Entertainment City Manila, is operated by Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.

The revamped People’s Park (pictured above), includes landscaping, a children’s playground, fitness equipment, a jogging lane, picnic area, pickleball court, seating, walkways, and security features.
The park, which is open from 6am to 10pm daily, also features food kiosks, “supporting economic opportunities for the city’s business owners,” said the foundation in a recent update.
MRP Foundation’s Mr Chung was cited as saying: “We are thankful for the opportunity to contribute PHP50 million to Caloocan City’s commitment to uplift its public spaces, because providing parks for the community exemplifies one of the highest traditions of public service.”
Mr Chung also credited the country’s casino regulator, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) and other project partners for the endeavour’s success.
Per the update, the park project aligns with Caloocan City’s “greener city goal and smart city initiative”.
The donation to the Caloocan local government is one of the MRP Foundation’s “various undertakings focused on environment, education, culture, and health programmes in conjunction with the mandate of Pagcor,” stated the announcement.
