Macau casino concessionaire MGM China Holdings Ltd has donated MOP300,000 (US$37,189) to Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop (SCMM).
The company said in a recent press release that the latest donation marked “the 14th consecutive year of support” for the association’s annual food hamper distribution programme. MGM China has contributed MOP4.1 million to the initiative over 14 years, it added.
In operation since 2013, the Welfare Shop is said to distribute each month food and essentials to thousands of families facing financial difficulties, assisting households in disadvantaged neighbourhoods to meet their living expenses.
Kenneth Feng, chief executive and executive director of MGM China, visited the SCMM’s Welfare Shop and presented the donation cheque to António José de Freitas, president of the board of trustees of SCMM.
The food hampers, packed by MGM’s management team and the firm’s Golden Lion Volunteer Team, were distributed this month.

Members of MGM China’s Golden Lion Volunteer Team – along with their children – took part in the initiative, according to the update.
The hampers were delivered to families in need identified respectively by SCMM, the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, and the Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped.
“The initiative fostered parent‑child engagement while extending warmth and care to the community,” MGM China stated.
