The Asian Poker Tour (APT) is to return to Macau with an APT Macau tournament to be held from October 19 to 25. The tournament will take place at Casino Lisboa, a property of casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd.
The event will be held in partnership with the Poker King Club and SJM Holdings, according to a press release.
“It will be great to get back to Macau. It has been three years since we were last there,” said APT executive tournament director, Lloyd Fontillas, in a statement.
“We wanted it, the players wanted it, the partners as well. Everybody is excited. This event is the key element of the pie for us to be back in the gambling Mecca of Asia,” he added.
The APT Macau 2016 will feature 13 side events and the highlight event, the latter with an entry fee of HKD22,000 (US$2,836).
The week-long event opens with the “Poker King Cup” HKD300,000 guaranteed event. The “Head Hunter” event takes place on the second day of the tournament with an entry fee of HKD4,400. The “High Rollers” event takes place over two days, starting on October 20 with a minimum buy-in of HKD55,000.
The APT Macau “Main Event” will be held over five days, with the final scheduled for October 25.
The organisers said they would also host a charity event during the tournament. One-third of the total prize pool of the “Ante Up for Charity” event and 1 percent of the “Main Event” prize pool will be donated to local charity Caritas Macau, said the organisation.
The APT this week concluded the APT Manila 2016 tournament, at the Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino, in the Philippines. Filipino player Alexis Lim took first place in the “Main Event”, with a cash prize of PHP766,000 (US$15,806).
The APT was founded in 2008 and held its first event in May that year, in Manila. The APT has staged several major events and numerous smaller tournaments mainly in the Asia-Pacific region. The tour has visited Macau, South Korea, Cambodia, India, Australia, London in the United Kingdom and Mauritius.
