Macau-based casino operator Wynn Macau Ltd announced on Tuesday the opening at its Wynn Palace property in the Cotai district of what it described as “the first and only Korean medical centre located within a resort hotel in Macau”.
The venue (pictured), a branch of the Blanc de Vie Medical Centre – presented by Wynn Macau Ltd as “a high-end beauty clinic brand from South Korea” – is already in operation, according to a press release. An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday.
“By introducing high-end medical aesthetic services and chronic disease management approaches to Macau, Wynn Macau Ltd aims to attract new tourist markets,” the firm stated.
It added that the move helps position Macau as a medical tourism destination, while also contributing to the city’s economic diversification away from pure gaming – a policy goal of the local authorities.
South Korea is a popular destination in Asia for medical aesthetic services, particularly among Chinese tourists. Mainland China is the main feeder market for Macau’s tourism sector and casino industry.
As part of its commitments to secure a fresh gaming concession in Macau, Wynn Macau Ltd pledged in late 2022 to invest a minimum of MOP17.7 billion (US$2.18 billion currently) into Macau between 2023 and 2032, with MOP16.5 billion – or about 93.2 percent – allocated to expanding international markets and non-gaming investments.
The firm was subsequently required to increase its total pledged concession-related investment by 20 percent. This followed the citywide annual casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) surpassing MOP180 billion in 2023, triggering a clause in the concession contract mandating an increase in overall investment.
The Wynn group also operates the Wynn Macau gaming resort on the city’s peninsula, in addition to Wynn Palace. The ultimate parent company is U.S.-based casino operator Wynn Resorts Ltd.
