G2E Asia 2018 trade show, conference starts today

Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia, a casino industry trade exhibition and conference that has been held annually in Macau for more than a decade, starts its 2018 edition today (Tuesday). It runs until Thursday.

Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, chairman and chief executive of Asian casino operator Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd, gives the opening keynote address of G2E Asia 2018 this morning.

The conference and trade show – an event jointly organised by Reed Exhibitions and the American Gaming Association – features on the second day a keynote and panel discussion in collaboration with GGRAsia.

“Business Trends for the Integrated Resort (IR) Model in Asia Pacific”, moderated by Michael Grimes, a principal at GGRAsia, begins with a keynote from Jay Lee, chief executive of Landing Jeju Development Co Ltd, the company behind the Jeju Shinhwa World gaming and entertainment resort on Jeju Island, South Korea. The resort is one of the newest editions to Asia’s growing list of self-contained, large-scale tourism venues offering entertainment, shops, restaurants and conference facilities as well as casino gambling.

Mr Lee, who is also chief operating officer of Hong Kong-listed Landing International Development Ltd, the parent company for the venture, will share with conference delegates some of the highlights of the Jeju Shinhwa World facilities and the thinking behind their selection.

The following panel discussion session will feature Ben Cavender, principal, China Market Research Group; Kevin Clayton, chief marketing officer, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd; and Andrew Lo, executive director, Suncity Group Holdings Ltd.

The topics to be covered include: current integrated resort trends, business and sustainable development; the non-gaming business proposition of the integrated resort model; China’s “going out” policy as it relates to outbound mainland Chinese tourism; and alternative source markets regionally for casino tourists.

In the morning on day two, Allan Zeman, recently appointed non-executive chairman of Macau casino licensee Wynn Macau Ltd, will share a platform with Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, president and executive director of another Macau operator, Sands China Ltd, and with Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office. They will discuss the topic “Macau’s transformation to Asia’s premier leisure hub”.

The opening day of G2E Asia today features the debut of Asia Lottery Expo and Forum, described by the G2E Asia 2018 organisers as a “business, learning and networking platform exclusively designed for lottery professionals”.

Its advent follows what the organisers say was the success of the Asia Lottery Forum and 7th China Lottery Industry Salon, which attracted more than 700 local and global lottery professionals at G2E Asia 2017.
