The inaugural edition of the “CSR Annual Digest”, produced by GGRAsia Publications – the publishing arm of gaming industry news provider GGRAsia – was launched on Tuesday during the MGS Entertainment Show 2019, a casino industry trade exhibition and conference taking place in Macau.
The report looks into the Macau gaming industry’s self-declared corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices, with a special focus on progress announced during 2018.
“This report on Macau integrated resort industry’s CSR efforts is the first of its kind, and aims to offer a comprehensive review of the industry’s stated commitment to sustainable development,” said the report’s editor and GGRAsia principal, Tiago Azevedo.
“This annual publication will serve as an important resource for the Macao Government and other local stakeholders, as it will demonstrate just how involved the industry has been regarding its CSR commitments in a number of areas, including engaging with the community, protecting the environment and training local people,” he added.
The report notes that the gaming industry in Macau “has been increasingly active and creative in terms of CSR initiatives, extending the coverage and stated goals of such activities”.
The document adds: “CSR efforts are starting to move beyond cash donations to third-party community organisations and are also focusing on partnerships with local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), environmental sustainability and team development.”
Sources used to produce the “CSR Annual Digest 2018” publication included: company annual reports; company CSR annual reports; information available in company official websites; company press releases; and other information provided by companies.
The report covered not just the CSR practices of Macau’s six licensed casino concessionaires; it also looked into the contributions of gaming equipment suppliers, junket operators and gaming service operators. Areas under focus included: community engagement; environment protection; responsible gambling; partnerships with local businesses; and human resource development initiatives.
The report publisher, TEAM Publishing and Consultancy Ltd, is the Macau-based parent of GGRAsia.
The initiative was promoted by the newly-launched Association for Promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility in the Integrated Resort Industry. The latter was established in Macau as an advocate for advancing CSR best practices in the city’s integrated resort industry.
