Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd says its latest sustainability report ranks sustainability issues by their impact on Melco’s global value chain and influence on its enterprise value: an approach known as “double materiality”.
The casino firm’s newly-issued 2025 report, titled “RISE to Go Above & Beyond”, covers global operations, including in Macau, Manila and the Republic of Cyprus.
Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, chairman and chief executive of Melco Resorts, was cited saying in the introduction: “Since launching our RISE sustainability strategy in 2019, our ambition has been clear: to integrate sustainability into how Melco operates, not as a parallel agenda, but as part of the business itself.”
During the reporting year, an environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility (ESCSR) committee was established at board level.
The 2025 report highlights included: annualised energy savings of over 71.7 million kilowatt hours, “the electricity consumption of over 10,000 homes”; and annualised water savings of over 290,000 cubic metres (10.24 million cubic feet), “saving 116 Olympic-sized swimming pools” worth of water.
Melco Resorts also noted that solar panels at its properties generated close to 10,000 megawatt hours annually, enough for “1,900 households per year”.
Electric and hybrid vehicles represented 65 percent of the firm’s total fleet, with 154 electric charging stations across all properties
The casino group also noted its waste diversion rate from recycling and composting had increased from 4 percent to 18 percent since 2019.
Melco Resorts stated it had composted over 1,400 tonnes of food waste with onsite composters since 2019.
In 2025, it recycled over 1.7 tonnes of playing cards across Macau, Manila and the Republic of Cyprus.
Winnow artificial intelligence-powered technology installed to track food waste in employee dining rooms, saw the “plate waste” average across properties in Macau and Manila reduced by 4 percent in grammes per cover in 2025 compared to the previous year.
Group CEO Mr Ho stated: “What began as commitments and targets has evolved into systems and practices embedded into how our colleagues work on a day-to-day basis.”
He further noted: “Maintaining consistency in how we govern, operate and deliver requires continued discipline and a clear understanding of both the opportunities and the constraints ahead.
“Together with our teams, and our ecosystem of suppliers and partners, we are committed to enhancing the positive impact we can create.”
For 2025, the firm saw 4,100 employees participate in 486 volunteering activities worldwide through its “Simple Acts of Kindness” programme.
It also engaged over 3,000 staffers in the group’s “REACH! Sports” initiatives to promote physical health, while supporting more than 700 employees mental wellbeing through the company’s “Feel Better” seminars and individualised counselling
Melco Resorts said that during last year it delivered over 763,000 learning hours across over 1,400 courses, resulting in more than 783,000 training enrolments
The group also contributed over US$19.17 million to champion local communities, support small- and medium-sized enterprises, and “preserve vital culture and heritage initiatives”.
In February Melco Resorts announed it had been included in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook 2026, a benchmarking resource for corporate sustainability performance.
