Macau casino resort MGM Cotai (pictured), which launched in February, is to hold two major concerts later this year, the first such events for the property.
The resort’s promoter MGM China Holdings Ltd said Grammy-award-winning British vocalist Sam Smith would perform there on October 19 and 20.
“We are honoured to have Sam Smith perform for the very first time in Macau at our new MGM Theater at MGM Cotai,” said Grant Bowie, chief executive of MGM China, in prepared remarks contained in a Tuesday press release from the firm.
According to the announcement, the visiting artist has sold more than 14 million records worldwide. He won four awards at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards held in the United States in 2015. His Macau concerts are being presented by U.S.-based events and sports promoter AEG, formerly known as Anschutz Entertainment Group.
In September, shortly before the concerts, MGM Cotai is to introduce VIP gambling room facilities, Mr Bowie recently confirmed to local media.
The MGM Cotai property’s MGM Theater can cater for up to 2,000 concertgoers in a variety of seating patterns. According to Tuesday’s press statement it is the first theatre in the world to have a specialised system capable of rotating the actual floor where the spectators are seated. It can also offer an in-the-round stage.
