Austrian gaming equipment maker and operator Novomatic AG says it has a licensing agreement with film company Miramax for the rights to produce casino games based on the crime and horror film ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’.
As part of the “multi-year agreement”, Novomatic is able to develop and distribute games branded ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ for land-based and online casino platforms, the firm said in a press release.
‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ – directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino – premiered in 1996, with a cast including George Clooney, Salma Hayek and Danny Trejo. Mr Rodriguez more recently developed ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ into an original television series which recently concluded its third season.
Novomatic plans to introduce its first ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ slot game – presented on the Novostart VIP III and VIP Lounge cabinets – during the upcoming Global Gaming Expo (G2E), to take place in October in Las Vegas, United States.
“From Dusk Till Dawn is a cult film that has regained attention due to its 20-year anniversary,” the chief technology officer of Novomatic, Thomas Graf, said in a statement included in the release. “We are very pleased to be partnering with Miramax on this great brand and are excited to combine our world-class gaming technology with this distinguished film and bring it to casino players around the world,” he added.
Novomatic had “record sales” in the six months to June 30. The firm reported revenue of approximately EUR1.22 billion (US$1.46 billion) for the first half of 2017, up by 11.3 percent in year-on-year terms, it said last month.
The Novomatic group operates more than 260,000 gaming devices and video lottery terminals in around 2,100 outlets, including gaming parlours and casinos, according to its website. The company is active in several gaming segments around the world, including casino, lottery, sports betting, online and mobile.
Novomatic is in the process of acquiring a majority stake in Australia-based slot machine maker Ainsworth Game Technology Ltd. The closing of the transaction is currently expected for year-end 2017, according to Novomatic.
