The Philippine casino regulator, the Philippine Gaming and Amusement Corp (Pagcor), says it has signed a partnership with the local organiser of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Such games – held once every two years – cover multiple sporting disciplines, including those of athletics and combat sports.
The latest edition is to be held from November 30 until December 11 at venues across the Philippines, including in Metro Manila, Subic and Clark.
According to a Monday press release from Pagcor, the firm will be one of the major sponsors of the event.
The accord is with the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee, according to the media announcement. It was signed in the presence of Andrea Domingo, chairman and chief executive of Pagcor, and House of Representatives’ Speaker, Alan Cayetano, chairman of the local organising body.
The media notice did not mention whether there would be a financial commitment from Pagcor for the sponsorship. But the press release said Pagcor had “earlier granted a total of PHP842.5 million” (US$16.5 million) to the Philippine Sports Commission for “the rehabilitation of facilities that will be utilised for the Games”.
Pagcor is both a regulator of casinos and an operator of gaming facilities – branded Casino Filipino – in the Philippines.
