The PokerStars brand of online poker games and land-based poker contests is to hold its Red Dragon tournament at Landing Casino, part of the Jeju Shinhwa World casino resort on South Korea’s Jeju Island.
Red Dragon Jeju 2019 will take place from November 9 to 15, said PokerStars in a written announcement on Tuesday. The seven-day tournament will feature a total of 18 events, including a main event with a guaranteed prize pool of KRW1 billion (US$822,527).
Landing Casino is a foreigner-only gaming venue operated by casino investor Landing International Development Ltd.
The Hong Kong-listed casino promoter said in a Friday filing that it would “regularly organise regional and global poker and baccarat gaming tournaments” as part of its efforts to promote and position Jeju Shinhwa World “as a desirable destination resort”.
The company reported last week a net loss of nearly HKD835.6 million (US$106.5 million) for the first six months of 2019, as gaming revenue for the period declined sharply.
Revenue in the first half of 2019 stood at HKD347.4 million, down 80.2 percent down year-on-year, with gaming revenue for the period declining by 94.3 percent.
