RGB building upon a strong foundation, eyes new markets

Malaysia-based casino electronic games and services supplier RGB International Bhd expects to achieve this year similar results to its “record” 2024 trading year, says Chuah Eng Meng (pictured), the firm’s senior vice president of sales services and marketing.

“Last year was a new record for us” in terms of business volume and results, Mr Chuah told GGRAsia. “We have broken our records two times in a row, and this year we’re aiming to match that record,” he added.

For full-year 2024, RBG reported net profit of MYR92.1 million (US$21.3 million currently), on revenue that rose by 10.9 percent year-on-year, to just over MYR775.7 million.

Group-wide earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at MYR151.7 million last year, up from MYR85.9 million in 2023.

RGB’s latest financial year included a contract by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) – the regulator and an operator of casinos in that country – to supply Pagcor with a total of 1,968 slot machines. The total value of the contract was just above US$81.3 million, according to previous corporate information.

“We are working very hard” to accomplish the targets for 2025, stated Mr Chuah.

“There’s now a lot of expectation in terms of our [business] performance. We are trying our best, and we are growing our team,” he observed.

“I think we have our biggest team so far to date, and we’re still actively hiring to cover all the markets where we operate,” added the executive.

He was speaking to GGRAsia during the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia 2025, a major casino industry trade show and conference that took place in Macau in early May.

The company reported last week a profit attributable to its shareholders of just under MYR12.4 million for the opening quarter of 2025, a 44.2-percent decline from a year earlier. That was on revenue that fell by 65.0 percent year-on-year, to MYR73.6 million.

Mr Chuah said the group’s “strongest market remains the Philippines,” where the company has expanded its presence.

RGB opened last year an office in the country’s capital, Manila, including a “training hub for customers, and a repair centre”. It will also encompass a showroom, which is awaiting final approval from Pagcor.

According to the RGB representative, demand in the Philippines “is still very strong,” with new casino resorts set to open in the country.

Opportunities abound

The privatisation of Pagcor’s directly-operated gaming venues might also create further opportunities for RGB, observed Mr Chuah.

In September, the head of Pagcor said the privatisation process of its network of Casino Filipinos was expected to start in 2026.

“We’re getting ourselves ready, actively talking to potential investors regarding the privatisation process [in the Philippines], and have ready some plans and some budgeting for that process,” noted the executive.

Mr Chuah said the group’s “biggest strength” was that it “probably” has the “biggest technical team” in the Philippines compared to other brands. “With our repair centre in Manila, we can actively talk to our casino resort customers and service their products, ensuring minimal downtime,” he added.

The executive said the firm was also looking at establishing a presence in Clark, Pampanga, a two-hour drive from Manila.

“We’ve actually been looking for a spot in Clark to open another office and showroom,” he stated. “It’s still in the planning phase but I think it’ll come through by the end of this year.”

In late February, RGB announced it had incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary in Thailand, known as RGB Digital Ltd. The principal activities of RGB Digital “are trading, designing, developing and supporting of digital hardware and software,” the firm said at the time.

Regarding the possibility of casino legalisation in Thailand, Mr Chuah said RGB was “getting prepared” for that eventuality.

“There’s so much talk about Thailand and we’re just getting ourselves ready, trying to get involved as early as possible and also discussing with the suppliers we work with,” he added.

The company is also eyeing other markets, such as Japan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“We are in the middle of setting up our subsidiary in the UAE. We have ongoing conversations with the regulators over there, to see what’s needed to set up there as a supplier,” Mr Chuah told GGRAsia.

Wynn Resorts Ltd is developing with local partners the Wynn Al Marjan Island casino resort in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the emirates. The complex is due to have a “pre-opening” in the first quarter of 2027, as per Wynn Resorts.

In Japan, a ground breaking ceremony for MGM Osaka was held on April 24. Construction of the complex is expected to be completed in the summer of 2030, with the opening scheduled for around autumn of that same year.
