Macau casino concessionaire Sands China Ltd says it has been recognised by the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for a fourth consecutive year, assessed in the top 1 percent rankings in both the publication’s Global and China editions.
The firm also said in a recent press release that it retained its “Industry Mover” distinction in the China edition of the yearbook.
The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook evaluates companies based on their scores in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), a benchmark used to measure environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
Sands China – controlled by United States-based Las Vegas Sands Corp – runs a number of Cotai resorts, including the Venetian Macao, the Parisian Macao, and the Londoner Macao. It also operates casino-hotel Sands Macao on the peninsula.
According to Sands China, the China edition of the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook assessed nearly 1,800 companies from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, with 193 firms across 56 industries selected for inclusion.
The casino firm was one of only 36 firms to achieve a top 1-percent CSA score, marking its fourth consecutive year in that category, per the update.
Sands China also retained its “Industry Mover” designation for a second straight year. The recognition is awarded to companies that improve their CSA score by more than 5 percent year-on-year while also delivering leading performance within their industry group. The firm said its CSA score increased “by more than 6 percent” from the prior year.
In the Global edition, S&P Global assessed more than 9,200 companies worldwide, selecting 848 companies across 59 industries for the yearbook. Sands China said it was among 71 companies globally to earn a top 1-percent CSA score, representing its third consecutive year in that tier.
The announcement cited Grant Chum Kwan Lock, Sands China’s chief executive, as saying the recognition reflected the group’s “continued investment and achievements in innovation and long-term planning”.
He added: “As the company continues to enhance the guest experience, we have also proactively implemented sustainable operating strategies, striving to reduce environmental impact and generate positive social outcomes.”
