Sands China helps secondary-school students explore career paths

Macau casino concessionaire Sands China Ltd welcomed in June nearly 20 secondary-school students from the Macau Anglican College, to The Venetian Macao resort, to help them explore career paths at the company.

The students “enjoyed three days of up-close and hands-on experiences” throughout the casino resort under Sands China’s “Diverse Exploration Lab,” said the company in a recent press release.

“The programme aims to aid their career planning and provide them with knowledge of the local tourism industry as they choose their future academic courses,” stated the casino firm.

According to the announcement, the Diverse Exploration Lab gives students an overview and provides professional knowledge on the operation of integrated resorts and about future career opportunities within the industry.

The update cited Paulo Cheong, senior vice president of human resources at Sands China, as saying: “Sands China has always placed significant importance on talent development. Over the last 20 years, Sands China’s integrated resorts have created over 1,400 new job types and provided over 80,000 job opportunities for Macau residents.”

Mr Cheong added: “We are glad to work closely with local schools to offer the extensive experience and insights of our professional team and our expansive operations to help equip the next generation with information they need for their future academic and career planning.”

As well as running its Diverse Exploration Lab, Sands China says it has been supporting – for three consecutive years – a series of career-exploration visits organised by Macau’s Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Women’s General Association of Macau.

For this year’s series, Sands China invited secondary school students from Saint Joseph Secondary School, Macau Anglican College, and Chan Sui Ki Perpetual Help College to “tour Sands China’s hotel rooms, learn from industry experts, and do hands-on activities” at its properties.
