Foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL) in South Korea, saw its April casino sales reach nearly KRW40.19 billion (US$27.7 million). Two of its three Seven Luck-branded casinos displayed double-digits of percent improvement in sales year-on-year and month-on-month.

That is according to Grand Korea Leisure’s filing lodged with the Korea Exchange on Wednesday, and its supplementary business updates.

Grand Korea Leisure’s April casino sales grew by 11.1 percent year-on-year. Compared to March’s results, casino sales were up 25.7 percent.

Group-wide April table-game sales rose 12.7 percent year-on-year, and 30.2 percent month-on-month, to KRW37.02 billion.

April gaming-machine sales though decreased 4.6 percent year-on-year to KRW3.16 billion, and were also down by 10.6 percent from March.

Grand Korea Leisure runs three foreigner-only casinos in South Korea under the Seven Luck brand: two in the capital Seoul, and one in the southern port city of Busan.

The group is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which in turn is affiliated to South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In April, the group’s Seoul Gangnam casino continued to top contributions to group-wide casino sales, according to its supplementary information. That venue generated almost KRW23.88 billion in April casino sales, up 58.8 percent sequentially, and up nearly 40 percent year-on-year.

Casino sales generated from Grand Korea Leisure’s Busan Lotte casino reached KRW6.23 billion, up 28.9 percent from March, and up 12.3 percent year-on-year.

April sales from Seoul Dragon City casino decreased however, by 6.8 percent sequentially to nearly KRW10.08 billion. Judged year-on-year, they showed a 25.6-percent decline.

Grand Korea Leisure’s latest results took its aggregate casino sales for the first four month of this year to KRW146.84 billion, up 1.7 percent year-on-year.

April group-wide casino drop – the amount paid by customers to purchase gaming chips – amounted to nearly KRW346.67 billion, up 20.5 percent year-on-year, and edged up 1.9 percent from March.

Aggregate casino drop for the January to April period reached KRW1.28 trillion, up 14.6 percent year-on-year.
