SJM Resorts Ltd, the Macau operations unit of Hong Kong-listed casino firm SJM Holdings Ltd, says it will launch in April a new “residency show” for 2025 at its Grand Lisboa Palace property (pictured) in Macau’s Cotai district.

“The Adventures of ALICE @ Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau” will be produced in partnership with Hong Kong Ballet, a classical ballet company founded in 1979 in the neighbouring city, according to a Friday press release by SJM Resorts.

The show that will make its debut in April at Grand Lisboa Palace is said to be “inspired” by the original production “ALICE (in wonderland)”, choreographed by the Hong Kong Ballet artistic director, Septime Webre.

The ballet company’s show ALICE (in Wonderland) has been performed in Beijing, Hong Kong and the United States, and is scheduled for Singapore next month.

SJM Resorts said it would conduct open auditions for its residency show on January 11 and 12, for “male and female dancers with strong ballet or contemporary dance skills”.

“Successful candidates will be engaged on short-term performance contracts and play integral roles in a production designed to enchant audiences of all ages,” stated the casino firm.

It added: “Under the mentorship of Septime Webre, and distinguished ballet masters, participants will refine their skills through professional-level rehearsals and innovative choreography in this residency show.”

The Adventures of ALICE @ Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau will be choreographed by Mr Webre.

“Rehearsals will start as early as March, leading up to its official debut in April,” said SJM Resorts. “This immersive experience features a lively parade, whimsical performances, and interactive workshops.”

According to the announcement, the production will take place on a 360-degree stage at the Atrium, on Level 1 of Grand Lisboa Palace, with performances to take place on weekends and public holidays.
