Casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd again organised a series of activities for the elderly and those in need in the Macau community, ahead of the Lunar New Year.

The initiative included the “Spring Clean for Love”, the “Intergenerational Calligraphy Workshop”, and the “Songs for Spring Festival” programmes, as well as free haircut services for senior citizens, said the company in a press release.

The firm also said that 2,500 scarves hand-knitted by respectively MGM Golden Lion volunteers, other MGM staff, and local students, were distributed to 14 social welfare organisations.

The activities, stated MGM China, benefitted more than 3,100 people, “including seniors, students, and people with disabilities”.

Celebrating the 11th anniversary of the “Spring Clean for Love” programme, MGM China helped senior citizens in the traditional cleaning of their homes before the Lunar New Year. This year, 220 of the firm’s staff helped with those tasks in homes of 220 elderly residents at Fai Fu Building in the Fai Chi Kei Social Housing complex.

“Gift packs were also distributed to each senior citizen containing staple and nutritious food, as well as daily necessities,” stated the casino concessionaire.

As part of the initiative, MGM China invited 11 students from Macao Tung Sin Tong Secondary School to visit senior citizens at Tung Sin Tong Elderly Activity Center, and write over 100 festive poetry couplets for distribution among the elders.

MGM China’s volunteers also visited more than 100 seniors at the Mong Ha Elderly Center of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions.

Continuing the annual tradition, MGM China also organised “five charity haircut events” in January, offering free haircuts to more than 150 seniors from a number of local organisations.
