Macau casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd (GEG) hosted this week a ceremony to recognise the achievements of the participants in the group’s “GEG Integrated Resort Youth Development Programme”, an initiative co-organised with the city’s Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL).

So far, the IR Youth Programme “has provided over 180 local talents with diverse employment opportunities” in various areas, said the casino firm in a press release on Wednesday.

“Meticulously curated to include up to 300 hours of professional courses and vocational training, the IR Youth Programme offers comprehensive support for participants to enhance their personal and professional development,” stated Galaxy Entertainment.

Wong Chi Hong (pictured, right), director of DSAL, said in a speech at the ceremony that the Macau government had introduced a “wide variety of employment support measures”.

Such efforts include DSAL collaborating with Macau’s integrated resort operators to co-launch an “Employment + Training Programme”, which Mr Wong said was “aimed at attracting local residents to join the integrated tourism and leisure industry”.

He added: “With our collaboration with GEG, we have implemented nine specialised programmes to date and achieved ideal results. We appreciate GEG’s support and collaboration in nurturing local talent in Macau, offering diverse training opportunities, and actively encouraging employees to obtain nationally or internationally recognised professional certifications, which helps establish a sustainable career pathway for local residents.”

The announcement cited Eileen Lui (pictured, left), group director of human resources and administration at Galaxy Entertainment, as saying: “I would like to extend our gratitude to DSAL for its guidance and support in co-launching the IR Youth Programme. The GEG team spent six months to thoughtfully design the courses and training programmes to ensure they are practical and beneficial for the participants.”

The Galaxy Entertainment executive said participants had “achieved an average of four industry-recognised certifications through this programme, with some having successfully seized upward mobility opportunities, which is truly encouraging”.

She added: “We look forward to closer collaborations with DSAL to enrich the talent pool for Macau’s integrated tourism and leisure industry.”
