The Philippine casino regulator, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), inaugurated on February 28 the first Pagcor-funded socio-civic centre in the province of Occidental Mindoro.
The two-storey building, built with a PHP50-million (US$873,460) funding from the state-run gaming agency, “will benefit residents of Mamburao … as well as those from neighbouring municipalities,” stated Pagcor in a Monday press release.
The socio-civic centre, located in the municipality of Mamburao, “is designed to host socio-civic activities, educational programmes, training sessions, among other community events,” added the agency.
The announcement cited Occidental Mindoro governor, Eduardo B. Gadiano, as saying: “We are deeply grateful to Pagcor for bringing the first socio-civic centre to Occidental Mindoro.”
He added: “This facility will greatly support various community initiatives and will provide a safe refuge during severe weather conditions.”
