Macau casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd says it has partnered with Art Basel Hong Kong to launch the “MGM Discoveries Art Prize”, an initiative aimed at supporting “emerging talents of all ages and nationalities”.

“MGM hopes to introduce cutting-edge artistic trends into the city by inviting award-winning artists to Macau and inspiring the younger generation to engage in artistic creation,” stated the firm in a recent press release.

MGM China runs the MGM Macau and MGM Cotai casino resorts in Macau.

The announcement said the winner of the inaugural “MGM Discoveries Art Prize” is scheduled to be revealed at the MGM Lounge during Art Basel Hong Kong on March 28, 2025.

“This award highlights the originality and innovation of international emerging talents in the art world, providing them with increased opportunities to showcase their work and enhance their recognition within the global art community,” said the update.

The jury is comprised of five experts from the international arts and cultural fields. They will evaluate three shortlisted artists: Shin Min, represented by P21 in Seoul; Kayode Ojo, represented by Sweetwater in Berlin; and Saju Kunhan, represented by Tarq in Mumbai.

The winning artist will receive a US$50,000 cash prize, to be shared with the gallery representing them. The winner will also have the opportunity to hold an exhibition and engage in artistic exchanges in Macau, said the firm.
