In recent years, basketball in Asia has become a stage for outstanding talent and impressive achievements. One of the region’s most significant players is the Philippines’ Chris Newsome, a professional basketball player who has risen from university competitions to major victories on the international stage. We explore how Newsome’s career is evolving and what helps him overcome challenges while creating new opportunities for young athletes.

Path to stardom: Chris Newsome’s achievements

Newsome was introduced to basketball in elementary school, while living in the United States, but his true passion for the game ignited in high school. During this time, he played a crucial role in leading his school, Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico, to its first-ever state championship victory. Later, a college scholarship paved the way for his entry to professional sports.

In his debut season for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Newsome was named Rookie of the Year, and in 2024 he claimed his first professional league title, also earning the MVP award in the finals. This was a historic triumph not only for him but also for his team, the Meralco Bolts, which secured its first-ever championship trophy.

One of the most significant moments of Newsome’s career came in 2023 when he won gold with the Philippine national team at the Asian Games. It was the country’s first basketball gold medal in 60 years.

“Being part of this victory is an incredible honour. This achievement will be remembered for a lifetime,” says Newsome.

What it takes to succeed: Chris Newsome’s recipes

According to him, the path to success was not easy. Professional sport requires not only physical effort but also high psychological resilience. Injuries, fatigue, and the pressure of expectations – all of these can affect performance. The most difficult challenge for Newsome was learning to maintain motivation regardless of the circumstances.

Balancing sport with personal life helps him avoid emotional burnout.

Before important matches, Newsome tries to approach the game in as relaxed a manner as possible. Massage and video games help him relieve tension, and shift his focus for a while, so he can then step onto the floor with full concentration on the game.

How the game is changing on the continent

In recent years, basketball in Asia has noticeably evolved, according to the 25-year-old basketball player.

“The level of play has increased significantly. Players have become more tactically aware and technically skilled thanks to the development of digital technologies and access to educational materials. Interest in international tournaments is also growing in Asia, providing young athletes with new development opportunities,” Newsome believes.

According to the player, the key factors driving basketball’s growth in the region remain infrastructure and access to high-quality training facilities. The ability to watch the world’s best basketball players, both live and through digital platforms, is also crucial. Major global tournaments, such as the latest FIBA Basketball World Cup, inspire a new generation of athletes to strive for greatness.

Chris Newsome’s interests beyond basketball

Beyond sports, Newsome is passionate about movies, music, and video games. He also uses online platforms to explore new topics of interest. For him, it’s important to be well-rounded and not limit himself to just basketball.

Significant events have also taken place in his personal life – he recently proposed to his fiancée, Cam, whom he first met during his college years.

“After graduation, fate brought us back together, and our relationship began to grow. We both believe in symbols, so I decided to propose on November 11, 2024, at 11.11am,” the young player shared.

How 1xBet and Chris Newsome create new opportunities

Newsome is excited about the prospect of not only advancing his career but also creating opportunities for other players who have the potential to become stars in Asian and global basketball. His long-standing partnership with the world-renowned company 1xBet has played a key role in this mission.

“Our collaboration began after my first victory in the professional league. It’s important to me that 1xBet supports not only my basketball career but also my values off the court. This partnership allows me to engage with fans and support young athletes,” says Newsome.

The bookmaker’s scale is evidenced by the fact that over 100,000 partners worldwide have joined its 1xAffiliates programme. Creating one of the largest and most successful affiliate networks in the betting industry would not be possible without the high level of product offered to partners and players.

As part of his partnership with 1xBet – a platform that has won prestigious industry prizes at events such as the International Gaming Awards (IGA), SBC Awards, and the SiGMA Awards – Newsome aims to expand interactions with his fans, actively using social media and planning more in-person events. His goal is not just to share moments from his career but also to involve people in exciting basketball-related initiatives.

“Many talented players simply don’t get the chance to showcase their skills, and my goal is to help them reach the next level – whether it’s securing sports scholarships or making it to professional basketball. I hope that, together with 1xBet, I can make a real difference,” he adds.

With a partner like 1xBet and the advantages of 1xAffiliates, it is much easier to create new opportunities for others. The weekly commission payments available to 1xBet partners can reach 50 percent – for basketball players, that kind of shooting percentage would be a high-level indicator. Moreover, if you bring it to 65 percent – 1xAffiliates provides such conversions – you can talk about an exceptional athlete’s skills.

It’s anticipated that Newsome will progress, and 1xBet will continue to do everything possible to develop his sport.
