Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL), an operator of foreigner-only casinos in South Korea, has announced a partnership with a robotics company aiming to introduce self-driving robots powered by artificial intelligence (AI) at its Seven Luck-branded facilities.
The deal between GKL and South Korean-based Robotis was inked last week (ceremony pictured), according to a press release from the casino operator.
One of the objectives of the partnership is to deploy self-driving robots for transporting gaming chips and cards across the Seven Luck casino facilities, the announcement stated.
The agreement followed a six-month pilot programme that began in September 2024 at Seven Luck Casino in Seoul Dragon City, Seoul.
“GKL is accelerating its transition to smart casinos in line with the government’s drive to realise the so-called ‘digital platform government’,” the press release quoted company chief executive Yoon Doo-hyun as saying.
“By adopting AI-powered self-driving robots, we aim to provide a new and differentiated customer experience,” he added.
GKL operates three foreigner-only casinos: two in the capital, Seoul, including one in Gangnam, and a third in the southeastern port city of Busan.
The company is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which in turn is affiliated with the country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In the three months to 31 March, Grand Korea Leisure’s aggregate casino sales rose by 15.6 percent year-on-year, reaching nearly KRW108.25 billion (US$73.2 million).
