Macau casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd has outlined in its 2024 ‘Environmental, Social and Governance’ (ESG) report issued on Monday work it has been doing to support Macau Special Olympics (MSO).
The firm stated: “We were the proud title sponsor of the SJM MSO Tennis Open Day 2024, which reaffirmed our commitment to providing an inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities to participate in sports and realise their potential.”
The company’s report on its social-responsibility work added: “We believe that sports plays a vital role in promoting social inclusion.
“In 2024, we fully supported competitions organised by the Macau Special Olympics, including bowling, badminton, football and golf, as well as a series of Play Unified Play Sports events.”
The company said volunteers from its workforce also participated in the Supporting 2025 National Special Olympics Games, “to encourage the active participation of Macau Special Olympics athletes”.
SJM Holdings further noted that – in terms of other community-minded sporting activities – the firm had been represented in a charity run co-hosted by the Macau Federation of Trade Unions and Associação Choi In Tong Sam, and organised 70 volunteers and their children to take part in the 2024 Charity Run for Caritas Macau.
SJM Holdings said it continued in 2024 its “long-standing commitment” to the Macau community via a “range of impactful initiatives”. Those included a donation of MOP300,000 (US$37,537) to support the Food Basket programme of the Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop;MOP700,000 to support Tung Sin Tong’s annual community outreach programme; and a MOP700,000 donation for last year’s “Walk for a Million”.
The company also contributed MOP200,000 to the 55th Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar.
The casino firm said in 2024 its Grand Lisboa Palace complex became “Macau’s first resort to earn the ISO 20121:2024 Event Sustainability Management System Certification”.
“This positions us as an industry leader and reflects our commitment to Macau’s sustainable development,” stated the company.
The casino concessionaire said it had “launched and completed numerous energy-saving projects since 2019”.
“A comprehensive energy audit of our properties was conducted in 2024. This has enabled us to launch additional energy-saving initiatives tailored to our findings,” it noted.
The firm added: “Our recent energy audit has identified that the majority of our overall energy consumption is driven by the operations of chillers and cooling towers. Recognising this as a key area for potential energy-saving actions, we initiated a comprehensive upgrade of our chillers and cooling tower components at Grand Lisboa Palace in 2024.”
