Macau casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd has signed a long-term development deal with mainland China’s Damai group, for a “performing arts hub” within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Damai describes itself as China’s leading live-event service provider, with services including event ticketing, content investment and production, event promotion and distribution, and on-site services.

The deal was outlined in a Tuesday update, and was signed on May 22 at the 21st China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair, in the mainland’s Guangdong province, next door to Macau.

Under it, Galaxy Arena and Damai will be “sharing resources, complementing each other’s strengths,” and engaging in “coordinated development”.

The effort will include promoting “creation of a performing arts hub” in the Greater Bay Area, and development of industry talent.

Galaxy Entertainment’s flagship Macau property, Galaxy Macau, in the city’s Cotai district, includes the 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena.

According to a corporate website, Damai is a unit of China’s Alibaba Pictures Group Ltd, a film company under China’s Alibaba group,

Tuesday’s announcement from Galaxy Entertainment noted that in 2023, Galaxy Arena and Damai – along with other entities – had reached an agreement for strategic cooperation on system services, project sales, content investment and production, and marketing, in order jointly to “expand the Hong Kong and Macau markets,” for such business.

The update added that last year Maizuo, the international version of a ticketing system independently developed by Damai’s digital management platform for the performance industry, was “officially delivered” for use at the Galaxy Arena site.
