Casino operator Wynn Macau Ltd says it has cut the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions by more than one third in the past five years. The information was outlined in the group’s “2024 Sustainability Report”, according to a Tuesday press release.
“By integrating decarbonisation strategies into its daily operations, the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 36.7 percent, as compared to 2019,” stated the casino firm.
Wynn Macau Ltd said it remains committed to supporting the Macau government’s “long-term decarbonisation strategy” by “exploring new opportunities for integrating sustainable practices into its business and promoting sustainable tourism”.
It mentioned as an example, that Wynn Macau Ltd “was the first integrated resort [operator] in Macau to partner with a local SME [small- and medium-sized enterprise] to recycle its used playing cards”.
As a result of its efforts, the casino firm said it recycled “nearly 100 percent of its playing cards in 2024”.
The company also stated that its diversion of non-hazardous waste “increased by 136.9 percent” last year, and money spent on procuring sustainable seafood “increased by 41.6 percent,” as compared to the previous year.
According to the sustainability report, during 2024, 85.5 percent of Wynn Macau Ltd’s total procurement was from Macau suppliers.
“With the launch of SME support programmes, which commenced in 2023, Wynn has found ways to assist SMEs in fully optimising their productivity, raising their professional standards, and empowering them to expand their businesses, which, in turn, has contributed towards the growth and diversification of Macau’s economy,” added the firm.
The report also outlined the company’s efforts for the benefit the local community and in support of the group’s employees.
Through the initiatives led by the “Wynn Care Foundation”, the casino firm’s employees “actively engaged in community service”.
“In 2024, Wynn team members dedicated 10,278 hours of volunteer services, and 2,845 volunteers participated in a variety of activities to benefit the community,” stated the company.
Wynn Macau Ltd also said it provided “diverse training opportunities” to support the professional development of its employees.
“In 2024, Wynn team members completed nearly 400,000 training hours, encompassing a total of 4,700 courses through both classroom and online training offerings,” said the company.
The casino concessionaire also said it was “the sole recipient” in Macau of the “Investment in People” accolade from the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2024.
The announcement cited Linda Chen, president, vice chairman and executive director of Wynn Macau Ltd, as saying: “Our accomplishments are a testament to our commitment to upholding our core values … while also striving to make a meaningful difference in the community we serve.”
She added: “As we continue those commitments, we also continue to evolve our efforts in support of our sustainability goals. We remain steadfast in our mission to balance progress with purpose, ensuring that every step forward aligns with our vision of a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.”
