Summer shaping up to be a vibrant one in Macau as ops offer more concerts, performances

Macau casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd leads the pack both in terms of the number of concerts and the variety of entertainment performances to be held in Macau during the summer months. Most of the shows that will be hosted at Macau’s casino resorts are scheduled to take place in June and July.

That is based on information compiled by GGRAsia from materials published by Galaxy Entertainment, Sands China Ltd and Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.

According to information reviewed this week, the events promoted by Galaxy Entertainment are to be held at the 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena, the 2,500-seat Broadway Theatre, and G Box, the latter a 850-seat performance venue within the Galaxy Macau complex.

At properties operated by Sands China, shows are scheduled for the 14,000-seat Venetian Arena, and the Londoner Arena, with capacity for 6,000 guests. Other venues include the 1,780-seat The Venetian Theatre and The Londoner Theatre, with 1,682 seats.

Melco Resorts will host a number of shows at the Studio City Event Centre, a venue with up to 5,000 seats at the Studio City casino resort in Macau’s Cotai district.

From June to September, the three operators will be hosting an aggregate of 106 shows, mostly concerts, according to information compiled up to Thursday (June 26). Of that tally, Galaxy Entertainment will host a total of 60 shows, followed by Sands China with 27 performances, while Melco Resorts has scheduled 19 shows. The figure excludes residency theatrical shows promoted by some of the city’s gaming concessionaires, such as House of Dancing Water at City of Dreams, Macau and 2049 at MGM Cotai.

Most of the shows, i.e., 85 performances, are scheduled for June and July. Most of the performers are from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan and South Korea.

Between June and September, Galaxy Entertainment has scheduled 25 shows for its Galaxy Arena, the majority concerts from Hong Kong and South Korean artists; while Sands China is due to host 14 concerts at its Venetian Arena and Londoner Arena venues.

Aside from concerts, Galaxy Entertainment also has planned a variety of entertainment performances for the summer months, including artists’ fan meetings, stand-up comedy shows and theatrical performances.

The city’s government has been encouraging all six Macau gaming concessionaires to increase the amount of non-gaming products they offer, to help diversify the city’s gaming resort sector beyond high-stakes gambling.

A number of investment analysts has also suggested that shows by some artists have helped bring incremental gambling business to the hosting resorts.
